How fishing times today are calculated

We score every hour from the NWS hourly forecast plus locally computed sun and moon positions, then pick the three best non-overlapping 2-hour windows between 4 am and 10 pm. The solunar table lists today’s major and minor periods on their own so you can compare. See also the 30-day solunar calendar and tomorrow’s best times.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to fish today?

Usually the hour or two around sunrise and sunset, especially when a major solunar period (moon overhead or underfoot) overlaps. Enter a ZIP to see today’s three best 2-hour windows ranked by our hourly score.

What are fish feeding times today?

Solunar tables list major periods (about 2 hours around moon overhead/underfoot) and minor periods (about 1 hour around moonrise/moonset). Anglers call these feeding times. They are a traditional rule of thumb from John Alden Knight’s solunar theory, not proven science.

How do I find the best time to fish today near me?

Use “Use my location” or enter your ZIP. Times are calculated for your coordinates and shown in your local time zone.

Is early morning or evening better for fishing?

Both low-light windows score the same bonus. Which one wins on a given day depends on wind, pressure trend and when the solunar periods fall — the hour-by-hour table shows the reasons for each hour.

Why is midday sometimes rated well?

If a major solunar period, cloud cover with light rain, or a slowly falling barometer lands in the middle of the day, that hour can outrank a windy sunrise.
